Now that we have positioned humans in time, let us see what they have done with their lives and activities.
The pattern proposed below is not time-dependent, and can apply to a primitive people and to the industrial world alike.
It is designed as an energy principle: a mass (natural resources) is displaced and accelerated by an extractive process. This mass supplies energy (wealth), which we will call life. The system is entropic and so it degenerates, causing pollution.
First we will take a look at the various components of each part of the system and then see in the following section how they interact and evolve.
